Simplify lab testing through the power of portable SPR

About Us

Founded by Professor Masson and Professor Pelletier from the Université de Montréal, Affinité Instruments is a MedTech startup offering innovative biosensing solutions in life sciences based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR). We have successfully developed a portable SPR biosensing platform based on the reliable, but complex and costly, SPR instrumentation used in the pharmaceutical industry. Our first product P4SPR™ offers portability and modularity to bridge a gap between the need to simplify the assay development workflow and difficulty in accessing centralized SPR instrumentation. Affinité Instruments’ vision is to expand the applications of this reliable SPR technology into the area of point-of-care diagnostics and real-time monitoring in gene therapies and personalized medicines.

Our Mission

Enable simplicity and accessibility for SPR

Build versatile biosensing tools for life science discoveries

Transform SPR as a PoC platform for clinical testing

While Ludovic Live was pursuing his Ph.D. in JF Masson’s lab in 2008, he started thinking about how label-free sensing SPR could help other researchers in academia and clinical labs. But it took a few more years and additional experiences in a postdoc, a startup, and economic development before the opportunity presented itself to achieve his goal.

Since the mid-2000s, Dr. Masson produced three patents on SPR and over 100 papers on various aspects of the technique. Today, a full professor at the Université de Montréal, Dr. Masson is a world-renowned expert in SPR instrumentation and applications in biosensing and environmental testing.

Dr. Masson and Dr. Live, together with Dr. Joelle Pelletier, a protein engineering expert at the Université de Montréal, established Affinité Instruments (Les instruments scientifiques affinités inc.) in 2015 to accelerate the commercialization of high-potential biosensing innovations to address global research and clinical challenges. Their network of academics and clinical researchers expands over North America, Europe and Asia. Affinité takes a collaborative approach to create solutions that best address global challenges.
